The Wapping Project
Gill was part of the early days of turning the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station into a restaurant, gallery and theatre space with Jules Wright, and later served as a trustee of the charity behind The Wapping Project for more than 18 years.
Gill counts her part in "those early days of transforming a hydraulic power station into a restaurant, gallery and theatre space" among the things she is proudest of. She names Dr Jules Wright, who founded and led The Wapping Project, as one of her greatest teachers in how to light a room or an object.
The Women's Playhouse Trust began work in the station in 1993, and The Wapping Project opened there in October 2000. Gill joined the Trust's board as a director on 10 January 2005 and served until 3 August 2023.
The story2
In Gill's words
Of all the things I've done in my Life, being involved in those early days of transforming a hydraulic power station into a restaurant, gallery and theatre space is RIGHT UP THERE! One of my greatest teachers in how to light a room or an object, how to use the void between objects ....Dr Jules Wright.
